This stone block was intended to be a 120ft / 36m tall obelisk. It is estimated that a block of granite this size would easily weigh more than a 1000 tons, some geologists have suggested a figure in the region of 1100 tons – 1150 tons.

Unfortunately this obelisk was never finished because during the process to remove the block of stone from its mother bedrock, a huge crack appeared that made the stone unusable. Then continue to visit one of Nubia’s most important monument sites, the Temples of Philae, 12 kilometers south of Aswan, which was an ancient pilgrimage center for the cult of Isis and dazzled travelers with its power for centuries. This sacred site was venerated from the Pharaonic era up to the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler adding their own stamp onto the stones here. Saved from a watery grave by UNESCO’s rescue project, which transferred the monuments block by block from Philae Island to Agilika Island, today, the temples continue to work their charm on all who visit. Transfer to your hotel in Aswan for check in.  After that enjoy a felucca ride around Kitchener’s island and Agha Khan Mausoleum. Dinner and overnight in Aswan.

Toward the rear is a granite shrine dedicated to Alexander the Great (332-305 BC), then proceed to visit Karnak Temple, Cult temple dedicated to Amun, Mut and Khonsu. The largest religious building ever constructed. The temple of Karnak was known as Ipet-isu—or “most select of places”—by the ancient Egyptians. It is a city of temples built over 2,000 years and dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. This derelict place is still capable of overshadowing many wonders of the modern world and in its day must have been awe-inspiring. Transfer to your hotel in Luxor for check in. Located in the hills behind Dayr al-Baḥrī, the 62 known tombs exhibit variety both in plan and in decoration. In 1979 UNESCO  designated the valley part of the World Heritage Site of ancient Thebes, which also includes Luxor, the valley of the Queens and Karnak. After that visit Hatchepsut Temple at El Deir El Bahari where the eyes first focus on the dramatic rugged limestone cliffs that rise nearly 300m above the desert plain, only to realize that at the foot of all this immense beauty lies a monument even more extraordinary.
